Little learners and wise seniors come together for free, fun activities
A new partnership is bringing kids and seniors together in a fun, fresh way!

We know the joy that a toddler or preschooler can bring to their grandparents’ lives, but a new program with music, dance, and cooking is bringing seniors and kids together who may have otherwise never met, forging new bonds between the age groups.

It’s called Intergenerational Programs and it’s a new, free program through Lily Pad Lab at Grace Lutheran Communities – River Pines. Lily Pad Lab is an Eau Claire business that brings educational programs to families in the area, and Grace Lutheran Communities – River Pines is a long-term concierge care community for seniors in Altoona.

The first class starts June 29 from 1:30-3 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Communities-River Pines and will have the kids and seniors working on creative projects, singing, and dancing together. All ages are welcome.

“The benefits of intergenerational programs run so deep for both the young and the old. Young children gain a sense of the past as well as exposure to individuals with a variety of needs. And seniors are able to enjoy the energy and life that younger kids bring to their day! That’s why we are so thrilled to be partnering with Grace Lutheran Communities. We will be able to build lasting relationships between two generations who thrive in each other’s company,” said Vanessa Moessner, owner of Lily Pad Lab in Eau Claire.

“Our residents may have wrinkles, but their spirits are young and their hearts are huge,” said Karen Park, Activities Director at Grace Lutheran Communities – River Pines. “This will be a blast for all of us! Our residents are a big family here and they are ready to welcome these kids and their families into our lives with open arms.”

Moessner designed the programming as a way to build relationships within the different generations and, in turn, build a sense of community in a way that benefits the kids for the future.

Grace Lutheran Communities has been helping our friends and neighbors in communities all over the Chippewa Valley since 1960. The non-profit organization specializes in rehabilitation, assisted living, skilled nursing, memory care, child care, independent living, and adult day services.
